The Association of Women's Action, Research and Empowerment (AWARE Canada) was founded in 2006 as an extension of a summer pilot project devoted to the empowerment of young women of colour in British Columbia, Canada.

As a feminist organization, we believe that young women are self-defining and free to make choices regarding every aspect of their lives. We also believe that young women are experts on their own lives and can achieve empowerment through access to relevant support and resources.

- Provide young women with a platform for leadership and community engagement
- Encourage young women's involvement in social justice activism
- Encourage young women's exploration and use of the creative arts as a vehicle for personal and social change
- Provide young women (especially those from marginalized communities) with resources to develop their own empowerment projects
- Affirm young women's strengths by celebrating differences in experience and perspectives
- Provide young women with educational and creative tools for self-expression and action
